For the purpose of implementing LTSP in our company in a production environment I have built a prototype diskless workstation using new purchased parts including an ASUS TUSI-M motherboard with SiS 630ET AGP Chipset. This is probably overkill for a terminal, but will allow me to buy new reliable hardware and is still plenty powerful to run some local apps such as Mozilla.
The problem I am experiencing with this workstation is occasional spontaneous loss of session, causing the workstation to go back to the KDM login screen. I first used XFree86 4.1, then switched to 3.3.6 SVGA driver. Loss of session still occurs, but not as frequently. During all this time I can run the same apps on the server without any problems, therefore I suspecting the problem lies in the diskless workstation setup. I am suspicious that the problem is XFree86 driver for the integrated SiS video driver, but would like to get feedback from others that may have experienced similar problem. I suppose my options would be a) try different video driver versions for SiS b) try different hardware. Software versions in use: SuSE 7.3, KDE 2.2.2, Mozilla 1.0, LTSP 3.0.5, CITRIX ICA client, OpenOffice.org 1.0.0 ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by: OSDN - Tired of that same old cell phone?
