Thanks for that! I missed finding an apt source. I purged everything, and I'm trying again via apt-get. It found 15 dependencies, so that's probably just what I needed to do. I removed the things you say I installed needlessly, and I'm apt-getting task-termserv. (Do I _really_ need webmin? Why? ) I'll let you know how it works out. I'm hopeful that this was just what I needed to do, and I thank you for the nudge.
