Martin, All
We are trying to test LTSP with the Linux Zseries. And I just saw your mail from the
LTSP archive regarding the same platform. I just got my client to connect to the LTSP
server yesterday after a long battle with network issues (more on this later). The
LTSP client and server are each on a separate subnet.
The issues that concern us are:
1. Amount of Network Bandwidth required for the clients.
2. How much traffic is generated by a client in comparison to a normal Windows 2K
workstation?
3. Performance of the client when trying to perform normal function,
We would like to compare when a user would do any of the following activities or
similar E.g.:
a. typing a letter using OpenOffice.
b. check his exchange mail on a server on the local network using a browser.
c. browsing the Intranet /Internet.
Also we are trying to come up with reasons why you would want to run an LTSP setup in
a large environment, other than cost savings. If you are aware of any source for
possible LTSP applications in large environment I would appreciate it.
