Have you considered removing the fan from a micro or flex ATX power
supply? The 533 MHz ITX appears to dissipate about 20 watts(30 watts
including the power supply) in operation. Since many of these power
supplies are rated at 145-185 watts, running an ITX isn't much of a
load. The only problem I've encountered is that most of these require a
minimum current(typ. 200ma.) on the +12VDC line. Most of the ones I've
tested won't start on power up. My theory is that they are designed to
run disk drives in addition to the motherboard and with no load, the
+12VDC line exceeds the over voltage protection level, and shut down
immediately. I've seen some that will run for a short period of time
before shutting down. In all cases that I've tested, they do work
properly when a hard drive or two are added to the system( ie. load).
I'm looking into what modification is required to make them work with no
12 VDC load. They're cheap and readily available. I'll keep you posted.
