If you are referring to having the terminal server at one office, and the
diskless machine in another building (across town or the world, doesn't
matter) then yes it 'can' be done. But one thing that you need to remember
is that the amount of data being transferred via the network is tremendous.
I had it 'working' in a test enviroment between my home server and my work
computer. At the time, that was cable-cable. The problem with that setup
is that the upstream speeds are maxed at (about) 128kb (16KB/s). My current
office connection is now fractional T1 and, I'm able to upstream 80KB/s. I
put my terminal server here at work, and tried to run the client from the
house, again, it worked, a little better in speed, but still not really
usable. You will definitely need a broader connection than that to make it
feasible.

However, another way to accomplish this would be to run vnc. VNC is an
alternative to running a thin client, while still being able to use a linux
workstation. It is intended for a remote type application. You can run the
vncserver on the server (multiple screens allowable) and run the viewer on a
number of different platforms, including MSWindows. I have the vncserver
setup on my linux server here at work, as well as running the server on each
of the window workstations that I have here at the office. I no longer have
to walk down to the other office just to show them how to do something. In
a windows environment, it is very similar to PC Anywhere, under linux (*nix)
it allows you to run multiple sessions. An example would be to have a
single server, with a number of different vncservers running, for each
different user. This might be a smooth way to transition your users from
windows to linux.
