Ok, I am quite sure that busybox's GLIBC_PRIVATE glibc version is NOT
checking /etc/hosts despite any term in nsswitch.conf ("files" should be
all that is needed but I have tried using all the other words too), any
term in resolv.conf (none should be needed, but /etc/host.conf is not
read without a "nameserver" term), any term in host.conf (use'ta just be
a "order hosts", but host.conf is not being used now-a-days?), and all
of the libnss_* libraries and libresolv being copied into
/opt/ltsp/i386/lib. What is disturbing is the fact I can link to
/opt/ltsp/i386/bin/busybox as ./ping (on the server) and ./ping without
any problem (it reads the /etc/hosts file like a good resolver with the
local libraries (system is RedHat 7.3)). I know people have succeeded
using named on the server with the caching nameserver but I was hoping
someone might be able to build a better glibc (with its special version,
GLIBC_PRIVATE) so that the resolver might read /etc/hosts on the client
machine (it is created by rc.local, afterall).
