Thanks for your replies.

I've now tried an older kernel (lts_kernel_rtl8139-2.2.tgz) and
this one boots without any problem! I am now facing some
NFS issues, but I am quite sure I will be able to tackle them.

Wouter: Which kernel and LTSP version do you use
on the 486DX4 workstations?

Does anyone know whether the 2.4.19 kernel has higher
Memory or Hardware requirements?
