Somehow  I miss a little bit ;-)

I have setup the Thin Client and it connects to the server, I can login,
I can work ON THE SERVER.

I read the documents and it tells me I have to install the NIS server
and give it a domain name. I have done that. There is no change!
Then I tried to install ltsp_local_netscape.
I make a shell script for the rsh as described in the docs and it says
that netscape is not found. Of course it is not found, because, it is in
/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/usr/local/ .... but it looks up in the server
/usr/local/ ....
I login via Thin Client and make type in a xterm window: echo $DISPLAY
and it answers:
ron-TC.2bright.net:0
My NIS domain is "ThinClient".
I thought with NIS I can setup different users than the users, who can
login in the server.
/var/log/messages says:
Oct 11 16:52:50 ron-tc xinetd[353]: START: shell pid=806
from=192.168.251.254
Oct 11 16:52:56 ron-tc rshd[806]: rsh denied to ronald@server as ronald:
Permision denied.
(Which permission I have forgotten to set? Why it says "server" - NIS
problem?)

ronald:/etc # grep -v ^# ypserv.conf

dns: no
files: 30
xfr_check_port: yes
*                          : *       : shadow.byname    : port
*                          : *       : passwd.adjunct.byname : port

Printer:
I have SuSE 8.0 on the server installed. I have a printer Canon BJC-1000
on the Thin Client.
I don't know how to setup the que on the server for this printer, since
the installation program YAST, does only let me choose local pirnter,
network printer via SMB or Netware.
/var/log/message says:
Oct 11 16:28:18 ron-tc lp_server: Started with: -n 9100  -d /dev/lp0
        seems that the Thin Client knows the printer.

Sound:
I have set the run level to 3 for testing and can use with auplay
ssss.wav, however it is just a very short sound and I have to stop the
command with CTRL-C to get the prompt again.

Some other issues:
=============

I cannot get everytime the login prompt of the server. It starts the
Xserver (at least it says so), than the screen is blank and after a
while the LED on the monitor indicates, that there is no signal from the
ThinClient. I believe it is a timing problem, when the Xserver does not
quickly enough send some info ot the Thin Client. However, even I touch
some keys on the keyboard I am not able to wake it up again.
After JUST rebooting the Thin Client it MAY or MAY NOT work again. What
can I do to make this more stabled?

USB:
I would like to use the Thin Clients USB port to connect a hard disk, is
that possible, has anybody experience with it?

Applications:
Which applications are known to work?
Netscape is a package, so I assume it works ;-)
How about ICQ?
Open Office
...

... have a nice weekend

bye

Ronald
