Heimo, Sounds like you are booting a tagged kernel, prepared for an etherboot bootrom. But, you aren't using an etherboot bootrom on the NIC, you are using whatever is built in. this is shown in the fact that it works fine from an etherboot floppy.
You either need to re-flash the card with Etherboot, to replace whatever is there. or, you need to get a kernel that will boot using whatever is on that card. My guess is that you have PXE code on the card. For that, grab the pxestuff package from the ltsp.org download page. There's a readme file in there explaining how it all works.
