Peter,

I've seen a problem similar to this when running VMware
from an LTSP workstation, using certain video adapters.

The problem had something to do with either hwcursor or swcursor,
which was controlled by a setting in the XF86Config file.

It was about 2 years ago, and I don't remember the exact entry
to add to lts.conf.  But, at least that should give you a
direction to look in.
