LTSP is available as .rpm, .deb, or .tgz, so the quick answer to 'which
distribution' is that it doesn't matter. However, if you run into
problems, you stand a better chance of getting help from the mailing
list if you use one of the common distros (RedHat, Debian...). Some
sites choose RH on the grounds that the binaries in LTSP 3 come from RH
7.

You will need to install on your server all the services used by LTSP
(dhcp, tftp, etc.), plus whatever software your users will be running.
Look at the installation options in your chosen distribution:
usually something like 'server install plus GUI' gives most of the
software you need. If you find anything is missing, you can always add
it afterwards.
