Let me try to get all the questions answered in one post here. ;-)

First, from my readings on the openmosix-general list, they are looking
into a solution for the 2.4.19 openMosix kernel boot problem.

It is a known issue. A workaround may be to compile all the drivers you
need into the kernel, and *don't* use initrd. Then you can probably boot
it. This is *not* going to work for the LTSP client kernels, so it defeats
the purpose.

That's why I wrote up the new How-To for the 2.4.18-4 kernels: A) Because
my old how-to was just too outdated! and B) To avoid compatability issues.

Sometimes it takes a day or two for the latest/greatest to stabilize in
Open Source software. Nature of the development model I suppose... (See, I
wasn't just ignoring openMosix 2.4.19-6 after all! LOL!)

Second, A) openMosix has NOT been ported to work with GCC 3.2.x
(yet)--compiling kernels from source with GCC 3.2.x isn't going to work.
B) Compiling openMosix 2.4.19-6 from source with GCC 2.96 isn't going to
work either, you will get the same boot issue you get with the RPMS (I
know, I've already tried it...) C) 2.4.18-4 works just fine from RPM &
source (w/ GCC 2.96, hence the how-to indicates K12LTSP 2.1.1/RedHat 7.3)
;-)

Third, you *cannot* mix openmosix kernels. The client & server openMosix
kernels have to be the same version: Server=2.4.18 then Client=2.4.18. You
cannot run server=2.4.19 & client=2.4.18. It won't work and you will see
errors come up when you try to boot your clients.

Hope that helps,

James Jensen
