  I believe that I would need a better definition of "support" to answer
this effectively.
 
  If by support you mean user support (i.e. "How do I start a new
document?" or "My icons all went away when I hit delete and answered
'Yes.'") PCs and thin clients would be about equal. Users are users,
regardless of the hardware.

  If by support you mean supporting the hardware and its configuration
the answer would be a virtually unlimited number of desktops. For
example I have a installation that provides public terminals in a
library. I have had to provide one hour of service in the past three
months to replace a broken mouse.
