A small CD rescue disk that has a very complete set of tools can be
found here:

Version 0.93 will not only let you boot into ram (and then remove the
CD) but also contains memtest86 that you can choose to run instead of
booting Linux. One of the versions is less then 33Mb and small enough to
fit a credit card sized cdr.
