Jan,
  Every user needs an "account" on the server, even if it is just a generic account 
that the users has no idea about.

  You probably will want to use auto login to accomplish what you are looking for. I 
know that kdm supports this and I think newer versions of xdm do also.

  Check your (kdm|xdm)rc file for the correct options to set.
