Some of these questions might have been asked before, but I wasn't able to find them after searching for a couple of days. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi. I'm trying to set up a "mini" LTSP network in my home because: a) it's cool and... b) I want to get some experience with this so I can possibly set up a system like this in the private school where my mother-in-law works. So, I have my server (Athlon 1.4, 256 MB RAM) and my client (K6200, 32 MB RAM). They're connected via ethernet cards and a crossover cable. >From the software side, I used the Mandrake 8.2 tutorial to set up my system. Everything seems to be running correctly from that perspective and my client and server are connected, so I put in my boot floppy and tried to fire this puppy up. Here's (more or less) what I get on my client. The elipses (...) represent a seemingly unimportant string of text: ---------------------------------------------------------- (blah blah blah) ... Probing...[NATSEMI] natsemi_probe: MAC addre FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF at ioaddr 0xF800 ... Searching for server(DHCP)... natsemi_transmit: TX Timeout! Tx status 8000024E natsemi_transmit: Transmit Error, Tx status 8000024E ---------------------------------------------------------- Here are a few newbie questions: 1. Why is my mac address FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF? 2. If DHCP is running and my computers are connected, then why can't my client "find" my server? Thanks in advance for any help!
