Help appreciated with sorting out this email scenario:-

  1. Have 1 win9x machine (IP address 90.0.0.5) which uses WINPROXY software (provides multiple connections through 1 inet connection, user control, antivirus scanning of emails and html stuff etc...) and is connected to network hub.
  2. Have LTSP server (IP address 90.0.0.254) connected to same hub.
  3. Have 5 clients (DHCP IP addresses of 90.0.0.10 to 14) connected to hub.
  4. Connect to ISP caled NETCONNECT, but emails hosted by another server (mail.bigpond.com).
To access the internet from any machine (including the win9x) I configure the browswer to connect to 90.0.0.5 and all works fine, including the LTSP server and the clients.

Setup of the email system is similiar, simply point the email client to 90.0.0.5 and alls well for the win9x machine, but the linux browser (balsa) wont receive or send emails.

The WINPROXY software allows for a text delimiter (e.g. #) to connect to a different email server so for the win9x machine I check emails with username@server#mail.bigpond.com and it works perfectly. This will not work with balsa.

Any suggestions appreciated. I'm a linux newbie so please be gfentle with me :)

Regards,
Brendan H
