The cloop driver that Knoppix uses for its compressed file system is a block device... so if there's plenty of ram available, frequently used apps like Mozilla and OpenOffice should tend to remain in cache once they are loaded from CD. The initial load will be slow, but additional requests should originate from ram. With our existing system I've noticed that once the first student loads an app, there's very little hard disk activity on the LTSP server when the other terminals subsequently request it.
