Janette,
  It sounds like a video problem, not a NIC problem. From the list of packages that 
you downloaded I don't see a X server. Try starting your client in RUNLEVEL = 3 then 
manually running startws. See what X errors pop up on the screen.

  BTW - the client will not boot from a kernel that works on your server... unless you 
have a VERY weird server! :-)
