IMHO this is utterly bad.
Your LTSP users don't need a modem to access the internet
If you DO do this LTSP is probably a bad solution, you should be using
stand=alone workstations with firewall, ppp etc.
All the network issues of LTSP (XDMCP, NFS etc) mean that ltsp is supposed
to be tun on a trusted network.
A much more rational solution is this:
[ws001]---[ws002]---[etc]----[server]
[firewall]
[masq]
[modem]----------- internet ------------
you don't even need [masq], that would let 'real' machines on the [ws..]
network also access the internet.
