I'm running LTSP at home with a few clients that use a floppy to boot from and also have linux on the hdd. I have noticed that the clients are noticeably quicker when booting from the hard drive and use X -query to access LTSP.
A thought, and I know it would require recompiling the kernel and much more, but I am tempted to see if I can copy the files from /opt/ltsp to a cf disk and boot from that to X query the LTSP server. NFS swap would still be used, home mounted via NFS on the LTSP server. Looks like a 64mb flash disk would be sufficient if all uneeded xserver packages are removed. Does this sound feasible? practical, useful or interesting. It's just a thought at the moment and looking for some feedback.
