Well after a few days of hacking I finally got the mini-itx boxes booting from a 32M Compact Flash Card.
We use a slightly different setup here as we choose to have the client running stand alone. In this fashion we do not need to tftpboot and or nfs or anything else of that nature. We just have the client boot linux from compact flash and point x windows at the server using X -query host.domain.com We ended up using the peewee linux system which gives you a curses based tool to build a minimal linux system. For the mini-itx platform make sure you insmod into the kernel pci-scan and via-rhine this will get network running. The parts necessary are as follows... 533 MHZ via c3 barebones sytem from casetronics 190$ 32 MB Compact Flash Card 28$ Compact Flash to ide adapter 17$ from ACS 64MB dimm We remove the two mini fans from the case since we operate them in a very dirty shop environment. The machines running from compact flash draw exactly 17Watts under a load and will nearly pay for themselves over the life of the machine. The machines make absolutely no noise. If anyone has questions about the setup feel free to email me at.
