You know that you can setup a second dhcp server that only answers requests from ltsp clients? There have been threads on this mailing lists, look into the archive. I'm sure you could take the initrd, replace the dhclient (dhcp-client to get the IP-address) with a static assignment and put it onto a harddisc. Not too difficult probably, write a how-I-did-it!
