Luis, I just sucessfully installed ltsp on one of my home systems today. It took me a while to troubleshoot it and find all the configuration mistakes I made. The issues you address had me stumped at first, too.
If you are getting to the gray X display, you are almost there! One thing that can cause that problem is a firewall. Some other problems are listed here, in case you haven't seen this document. http://www.ltsp.org/contrib/gray_screen.html On Thursday 23 January 2003 12:02 pm, Luis Hurtiz wrote: > For people trying to install ltsp on Mandrake 9.0 here > is what I went thru: > > Trying to install with a 3c509 network card yield to a > bunch of troubles, but I made the mistake of > downloading a boot floppy from rom-o-matic.com that > was actually from a "developing version" so that might > have being my mistake (the terminal reboot after > loading the kernel). > > then on the start of tftp it makes a -s > /usr/lib/tftpboot so you might need to change that > script which is in /etc/xinetd.d/tftpboot (do a vi > /etc/xinetd.d/tftpboot) and you should change that to > /tftpboot, or the other way around that is to actually > move your kernel image to /usr/lib/tftpboot and make > according changes en /etc/dhcpd.conf. > > ok so that solved almost all of the problems, another > problemas was when ther kernel was in memory and in > tried to set the nfs root file system it said > something like: > > Mounting root filesystem:/opt/ltsp/i386 from > 10.18.40.254 > > The problem here was that there is no 10.18.40.254 > address so you changed that to your actual tcp/ip > address actually I think that everything that ends > with .254 should be changed to your server IP address. > > Now I have the problem of the X display gray with > just the mouse cursor on it, but I understand this has > to do with the gdm, kdm, xdm logon managers probably > something about security withing mandrake 9.0, I am > working on the solution, any help is aprecciated and > this is posted just because it might help someone with > problems in mandrake 9.0 installing the great ltsp > packages. > > > > __________________________________________________ > Do you Yahoo!? > Yahoo!
