These machines are fine for a diskless linux environment! (a P100/16 with 2Mb video is good enough, possible with 486-66/12 with 512k video!)
As the other guy said, you will need a netowrk card and either a floppy drive or a boot rom on the network card to boot from. Its also simple to boot from a hard disk instead of boot rom/floppy, but it looks a little messy! PCI bus machines are a breeze to set up, but ISA ones are easy enough too (sometimes!).
