Something I (re)discovered recently: People who are using X-terminals (such as LTSP workstations) for computational work may find the output from their programs scrolling much more slowly than it is output. This could be because of the finite speed of the network and graphics hardware. It is a problem because if the program pauses, you don't see the pause till it is drawn to the screen. If you want to kill the program, etc. at the pause, that isn't possible since it has moved on by the time you see the pause. It is also irritating to watch slow scrolling.
Starting xterm with '-j' turns on jump-scrolling, and scrolling is now somewhat synchronous with the program. Rxvt, gnome-terminal, etc. should also have equivalents. -- bhaskar ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.NET email is sponsored by: SourceForge Enterprise Edition + IBM + LinuxWorld = Something 2 See! http://www.vasoftware.com _____________________________________________________________________ Ltsp-discuss mailing list.
