My $0.02, but there are a number of people doing libraries, and much stuff
is posted.
Here is my easy solution:
Setup your RH8 server with GDM
Setup TimedLogin and AutoLogin
Use Icewm
Set your session default to .xsession
do whatever stuff you want in .xsession eg launch a browser
eg .xsession 0755
----------------------------
/usr/local/phoenix/phoenix &
icewm
----------------------------
Set Auto and Timed login user to /usr/bin/autologin|
put this (or whatever you please) into the autologin
note the | at the end of user!
------------------------------------------------------------------
#!/bin/bash
HOSTNAME=`echo ${DISPLAY} | cut -f1 -d: | awk -F . {' print $1 '}`
echo $HOSTNAME
exit 0
------------------------------------------------------------------
Do NOT run local apps
It works! Its messy and much more complicated! It requires more ram
and processing power.
Also avoid nfs swap, use modest machines with 32M or more of ram
I'd also confiscate all sessions except the default Xsession for GDM
all works perfectly - marry ws names to users ie ws001 will login as ws001 etc
