We're adding a small lab of Asus P4BGL-VM based P4 stations to an LTSP
installation (v. 3.0.7-0 under RH8) The board in these stations has an
Intel onboard LAN (82562ET chipset).

On boot, the system seems to behave through dhcp & tftp phases --downloading
the kernel and ramdisk. When the kernel starts it errors out, "Could not
automatically detect the network card. PCI cards should be detected
automatically. ISA cards ... " and suggests the option-129 for ISA route in
dhcpd.conf. And then dies attempting to "kill init!".

I have put an 82550-EY based Pro 100S server adapter in and tried to connect
from it. Unfortunately disabling the onboard NIC disables the ability to do a
PXE boot! (Expletives deleted!). BUT if I connect to the enabled onboard NIC
with the second NIC installed, the system boots! The kernel reports 2 i82550
NICs. It seems the driver w LTSP works but simply doesn't recognize the card
to get it started.

Anybody else met this problem?

Thanks,

oo
