First your approach will work
Second you need to make a few changes.... ;-)
Can you setup another server in front of the LTSP ? The LTSP server should be dedicated to the task.
We have setup a number of computer labs in secondary schools (high schools in the US) with LTSP.
The configurations are as such;
P-IV LTSP server, RedHat V.8 with 25 Dell P-I workstations. Standard Red Hat V 8 load with OpenOffice
P-II dual 450 SME Server - this is the Gateway/Router/Firewall PLUS THE SAMBA SERVER for connectivity to the MS world. Files & documents can be freely exchanged in either direction.
You already have most of what you need, just install Red Hat V. 8 , download WEBMIN (www.webmin.com) and SME server (www.e-smith.org) and kick MS out of there :-D

'network neiborhood' nor can I login to the server by telnet. This same
machine boots with an etherboot boot disk fine.
Can someone point me in the direction of some docs that might give me some
direction, please? Also, is there anyone here who has a ltsp setup
running well in the Greater Cincinnati area, such as a school?
