For a 3c509 the lines to add to your dhcpd conf are:

        option option-128       e4:45:74:68:00:00;
        option option-129       "NIC=3c509";

to be copiued verbatim, furthermore you must ensure that the ISA plug'n
play of the NIC is disabled
