John:
Others will know more than I but here are my recollections:
Due to my lack of Linux knowledge I performed a server load and selected
everything (RedHat 7.2). You will definitely need:
tftp server (check LTSP Errata/Updates for a potential tftp issue) I
believe that I had to get more recent version than was included with my
distribution. I can't seem to get the version info off of my server.
dhcp server. I'm using 2.0p15-8.
In addition I'd recommend:
Getting the excellent LTSP - Linux Terminal Server Project - V3.0
document (full documentation version) off of the ltsp site and study it.
It's in the Documentation area.
I don't know what terminal you're using but I'd suggest studying John
Robertson's - ThinkNIC-Howto guide regardless.It's in the contrib area.
It seems like there were some example configuration files on the site -
worth looking for/getting them.
This should get you started in the right direction.
BTW if you haven't decided on terminals my favorite is the Jammin125
from disklessworkstations.com. I've got one each of the J125, ThinkNIC
and Wyse 5355se (used).
J125 is smallest, has no moving parts (no fan), is noiseless (not quiet
- noiseless) and ought to last.
ThinkNIC has a fan, is 1.5x larger than J125. I've heard of power supply
problems but mine is fine. That said I'd go for fanless due to noise and
the fact that fans can fail.
I haven't been able to figure out how to configure my Wyse 5355 and so
don't know what to say. It's fanless but seems more complex, from a
config perspective, than the other two.
Good Luck
