Roy,
It's probably a 32-pin socket, not a 30-pin.
A 28 pin chip can sometimes be used. I'm not sure about the 3com,
whether that will allow it, but it's worth a try.

There's a crude drawing of how a 28-pin chip fits in a 32-pin
socket.
