Hello Jean,
no, there are no conflicts between samba and ltsp. Both of them work very good on the same machine and in the same environment. E. g. our W2000-machines work perfectly as terminals, when we start them with that special disk.
My question was just, what would happen if on the contrary we use physically separate machines for dhcp and the terminal services.
Kind regards, Gerhard Damerau

Dear specialists,
something like this has been discussed earlier, but I am afraid I could not really understand the solution.
We have a terminal server based on Suse 7.1. The server is 172.16.200.100, and it is a samba server for a lot of W2000 machines and it makes dhcp for the whole net. Everything is ok.
Our dhcpd.conf is actually:
... option root-path "172.16.200.100:/opt/ltsp/i386";
group { use-host-decl-names on; always-reply-rfc1048 on; option log-servers 172.16.200.100;
host pc1 { hardware ethernet 00:05:5D:A1:35:2A; fixed-address 172.16.200.1; filename "/lts/vmlinuz"; }
... }
Now we discuss to upgrade to Suse 8.1, and in this context there is a proposal to buy a new machine especially for the terminal server. The new machine (the special terminal server) could be e. g. 172.16.200.200. The old machine 172.16.200.100 would work as the samba server and would make the dhcp.
Could we do this by changing the root-path option in the dhcpd.conf
option root-path "172.16.200.200:/opt/ltsp/i386";
Would the terminals now know enough to get everything from the machine 172.16.200.200?
I fear the entry
filename "/lts/vmlinuz";
could be wrong.
Kind regards and thanks in advance
Gerhard Damerau
