I went from SuSE 8.1 to RH9 and regretted it. Red Hat's RHN update service is 
not living up to my expectations. The updates seem, to me at least, to be a 
bunch of minor changes to stuff I never use while I sit and wait for major 
packages (e.g., Mozilla 1.4) to be updated.

SuSE has a very nice automatic update service, and I don't believe any 
registration is required to use it. SuSE is also making a very strong push 
for Linux on the Desktop, which is what you're actually providing with an 
LTSP server. But a downside is the difficulty of finding RPMs that are 
packaged with SuSE in mind, rather than the most popular distro, which I 
believe is Red Hat.
