Thanks to all who have taken interest in this thread.
Situation is that I am running seven machines of one department on LTSP
using a P4 2GBRAM machine and there is no problem in this aspect.
The second department on the same LAN does not have IT budget and
although they have agreed to get budgets placed they want me to set up
(first demo and then works) LTSP environment where all of their existing
machines can migrate and can be taken up on rolling replacement over a
time period. Budget and cash are their main worry.
Although buying from ebay etc are out of question in India due to
distance and import duties the second hand machine idea was good and I
have found some sources who can give such machines cheap. More RAM is
good but the old P1's use RAM which is today difficult to locate and
very expensive so my cost analysis suggest that instead of this I would
rather buy second hand PC's of P2 / P3 grade as the rolling replacement
goes on.

More important I have managed to run the P1's with 8MB and even ran KDE
with XF86_VGA server. However I am struck with Mouse not found error and
am able to only run this with -allowMouseOpenFail option and using
keyboard. I think I will have to dig up old posts on this issue unless
any one can lend me a helping hand with summary of what to do.

One of the 486 16MB RAM has also been run in similar fashion. Now I am
trying to boot 386's... Fortunately all NIC are ISA / PCI NE2000 and
thanks to some one on similar list I have been able to get EPROM for
booting so I just plug the card in the machine and see if LTSP/X work
and tweak from there rather than do complete setup. No changing of hosts
/ dhcpd etc. to be done and only lts.conf to be looked at.

Whew guy, I am barely able to dip my feet in to RedHat7.3 and you come along selling
further dreams. May be you can describe some more to me directly on my email

Suggestions are most welcome....I know we should change computers but
budgets and death are only certainties as my CFO says.
