Hi all,

After successfully running LTSP in our organization(10 clients), Now i
have done another major LTSP implementation for a college with 30
clients. The clients have good enough configuration.

Here are the details of my setup

Server: Pentium 4, 1.7 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 2 GB Swap, 80 GB HDD, RealTek
Network card, Intel 845 Chip Set (On Board VGA), LG Studio Works Monitor

Clients (30): Celeron 1.1 GHz, 64 MB RAM, Realtek NIC with bootrom (NO
HDD, NO FLoppy), Intel 810 Chip Set (On board VGA), LG Studio Works
Monitor

Network: 10/100 MBPS with Hubs

Software: Red Hat Linux 9, and LTSP 3 (ltsp_core 3.0.9, ltsp_kernel
3.0.8)

The primary usage of the clients will be for lab practice for the
students. They will do c, c++, cobol, Web development. I have suggested
to use Anjuta, Bluefish for these purposes because they don't know
Linux. They will running GNOME.

Now here are my problems.

1) I am unable to boot with some NIC's. (I have posted this to the list,
but still not solved that problem). The problem thought was that bootrom
socket might be disabled. I tried RSET8139.EXE (downloaded from site),
bur still they are not booting. And to add that all the cards are of
same make and model. (RTL8139C). How to solve this one ?

2) On some clients after booting to X windows mouse and keyboard are not
working ? keyboard is working fine in the boot process. After staring X
it stops working. Its very annoying for me. and if i reboot the client,
only sometimes its coming. But on some clients its always a problem.
keyboard is serial and mouse is PS/2. What could the problem here ?

3) Some clients while booting are giving an error message like
"UDP error". I can't understand this one.

And few more questions

Will it be ok to run Gnome desktops on 30 clients ? or shall i go for
icewm or xfce ?

Will there be any network performance issues with the network ? (Hubs)

Thanks for listening to me.

Regards
Murali
