Something about the name floppyd and USB-disk on key doesn't quite sound to 
good in my ears. Shouldn't you treat the USB disk just like any HD partition? 
(I.e. not use mtools, but just mount it.)

And just to be sure, you did unmount the disk before using mtools, didn't you?
