Hi, I am going to build a new terminal server for my lab and I have a tough choice between Opteron or Xeon.
Here is what I have: 1. a Linux Terminal Server lab with about 28 Terminals. Each terminial is an older IBM desk top with a Pentium 200M Hz cpu (no hard drive of course) The existing server is an home built Athlon 1.2G Hz wuth 3 G RAM, 2 IDE 40G Hard Drive 2. I have about $4500 (Canadian dollar) to build a more powerful server I am planning to build my server with either dual Xeon (2.4G) or dual Opteron (1.4G) 3G of RAM 2 ultra-wide SCSI 36G hard drive (I love to have RAID 5, but I just don't have enough money at this time!!) 3. I found the price between a dual Xeon (2.4GHz) and a dual Opteron (1.4G Hz) is about the same. 4. Anyone with real life experience with the above server config (dual Xeon or dual Opteron), please give me your advices. Thank you.
