pxes project does not need/use nfs. It functions similiar to ltsp except that has a fully self contained file system running in ramdisk ,thus (ergo visa vi..sorry to much matrix) its initrd is larger then ltsp's and takes just a little bit longer to load. On the upside, it does not need a linux server running for thin clients to boot. You only need linux to configure the thin client images, though this is optional as there are pre made images available for download.
If you are running a windows only environment (with or without citrix) and need terminal access to the servers, pxes is an almost no brainer solution. We used it here to trial a linux based TC solution and still use it connect to WTS 2000 and our AIX server. In fact we are serving out the pxes from our RISC box (yes pxes is that portable and over comes architecture compatability issues). We use ltsp on our public library network as we have a linux server there already and (IMHO) ltsp gives us (easier) grainular customisation and has a larger user and developer base. hope this helps. -------------------------------------- Michael Webb IT Support City of Albany 221 York Street Albany Western Australia 6330 Phone : +61 (0)8 9841 9351 Fax : +61 (0)8 9841 4099 -------------------------------------- -----Original Message----- From: Erik Myllymaki [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, 16 October 2003 11:28 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Ltsp-discuss] http://pxes.sourceforge.net/ http://pxes.sourceforge.net/ anyone care to comment on this and how it's interop might benefit an LTSP environment? ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: SF.net Giveback Program.
