Could you please run "rpm -V ltsp_x_core ltsp_core ltsp_kernel"?  This will give you a 
list of LTSP files that have been changed since they were installed.

LTSP probably isn't using the same version of X as your harddrive
installation used.

This problem looks like something in /opt/ltsp/i386, so the distro you
use on the server really doesn't matter.
