tcpdump -E tcp udp 68 will show bootps traffic from the server to the ws001, if such traffic is being sent out.
we know the request comes in --but then what?

If the image is not being sent out, I can't imagine wtf is causing it to not happen unless somehow the subnet is not yet allowed by tcpwrappers. That would show up as libwrap connect denied to 10.5.112.52

Now OTOH, this looks very suspicious !
in your tcpdump of the request it says ws001 has 10.5.112.52
in your dhcpd.conf file that you included earlier post, it says that ws001 is to be assigned 10.5.112.50

Above that declaration, you have a line for allow unknown-clients; then
pool 10.5.112.50 to .51 }

did you change dhcpd.conf, to make ws001 take the .52 ip, or is this maybe a case of competing directives in the dhcpd configuration? I'm not at all a dhcp expert, but it looks like you assigned a static address (via dhcp) from out of an address range that should be assigned dynamically?

tftp is working. I can connect from a local client on my desktop.
tcpdump shows the connection. tcpdump even shows the thin client trying
to connect.

Here's a sample:
15:48:57.821566 10.5.112.185.33082 > 10.5.107.10.tftp: 38 RRQ
"/lts/vmlinuz-2.4 .22-ltsp-1" (DF)
15:48:57.821572 10.5.112.185.33082 > 10.5.107.10.tftp: 38 RRQ
"/lts/vmlinuz-2.4 .22-ltsp-1" (DF)
This was my desktop. I was able to download the vmlinuz image.
Here's the thin client:
15:50:13.273224 10.5.112.52.2006 > 10.5.107.10.tftp: 48 RRQ
"/lts/vmlinuz-2.4.2 2-ltsp-1"
15:50:13.273225 10.5.112.52.2006 > 10.5.107.10.tftp: 48 RRQ
"/lts/vmlinuz-2.4.2 2-ltsp-1"
Its not getting the image.
Another person in my office running Windows XP was unable to download
the image as well. Its weird that I have no problem connecting on my
desktop (running Linux) though. My desktop is on the same segment as the
thin client.
