the answer, as usual, is: "it depends". Do you want the terminal
ip for the one you are logged into? Then Jim's way with DISPLAY is good.
Or do you want the ip of a particular terminal that you are not logged in?
In that case there are many, many ways. If the who database is not broken,
who -u shows users with associated addresses. you can take the address and
grep for it in /etc/hosts. ping is good, but slow. if you have the mac
address, you can search /var/log/mesages - this is where dhcpd leaves its
droppings. have fun. julius
