That would be just a FAT client. Load your favorite Linux distro on the client and NFS mount a common server to store common accesed information.

With LTSP, you can still use a thin client approach and have each workstation run it's local applications. The benefit in this approach is reducing server load, but, maintain the administration and configuration ease of a centralized solution.
