Norbert,

rcc is a friend of mine. The actual question he is asking is what's the largest number of workstations that people currently have running on a single LTSP server.

he's got a big one with 140, and he's looking for other large sites.

Hi,

hmm well that's kind of a loaded question .... define the specs of the server & then we might be able to respond. Exemple if you're using an AS400 as a LTSP server then you can probably run a few thousand clients, whereas if you have a P-IV 2.4 GHz with 2GB memory & SCSI drives about 20 to 30 based on the applications that are used.

Don't think this is true, albeit we have currently only about 20 clients, on a dual P3-1.4GHz with 3 GB of RAM and 15k SCSI drives, I can't see any real load, CPUs are both about 90-96% idle all the time, despite running KDE3. It's just amazing fast, login screams, probably due to about 2GB of memory used for caching.;)

The box is monitored 24/7 with MRTG, so I'll be able to follow the
situation over month, personally I think this setup should handle about
100 thin clients easily. We'll see, currently I'm planning on a second
LTSP server to have more redundancy, if the first server should
encounter some hw problem. Thought about using the loadbalancing feature
newer dhcpd versions have, has anyone expirience on clustering LTSP server?

Greetings to all and keep the great work!
