  I've never tried this but I do not believe there is anything on the
client to do name resolution. In a thin client set up the server is
doing all the work - i.e. name resolution - and the client only runs a
*very* stripped down system.

  Is there a reason you want to be able to reach a remote site from the
client in runlevel 3?
