I suggest you have a look at the TightVNC FAQ. They
suggest this exact combination:

TightVNC is preferable for this application, since it
compresses the data stream - ideal for remote access.
In addition, the VNC approach can be used from any
machine that supports VNC. If the remote machine
supports Java, they even have a java-based VNC client.
All free for downloading. :-))
As for why not LTSP: You won't be booting remotely.
Even if you could, it would be a *bad* idea, with
all of the network noise of DHCP, TFTP, NFS and XDMCP.
Remote session support is possible using X, but it
it rather "chatty" and network intensive. There is
the option of "LBX" (Low Bandwidth X), and you may
want to look into this further:
