James,

last week, someone spotted a problem in getltscfg (the routine that 
parses the lts.conf file).

It was segfaulting with certain combinations of entries in lts.conf.

perhaps that is what is happening here, and you can't see the segfault 
message, because it happens so early in the boot process.

Contact me, either on the IRC channel or via email, and I'll get you the 
updated getltscfg, and lets see if that solves the problem.
