I've worked with the engineering guys at HP on the shutdown button.  
They've said that they are going to have a newer bios in them, with a 
configurable option, to do instant-off, rather than requiring you to 
hold the button in for some number of seconds.

They are supposed to have that soon, and they said they were considering 
making the default be 'Instant Off' for the units that we get at 
DisklessWorkstations.Com.

I'll poke the HP guys again, just to see if they've gotten it setup yet.
