Well, this isn't really an LTSP problem, but if you edit /etc/inittab and change the value for runlevel in that file to 5 for XWindows and 3 for text only. I think the script ltspcfg allows automatic configuration of this when you use it to configure XDMCP; it asks you if you want to start the server in text-only mode or not. Of course, it also depends on what version of LTSP and Linux you are using so you might want to include that in each subsequent message to this list.
