Though it says /tftpboot, this does not necessarily mean...
are you using tftp or nfs? In case of the first, I'd try another tftp daemon 
(yours could be buggy). If you don't use it yet, I heard people recommend 
tftpd-hpa (download it from the links you find on www.etherboot.org -> 
download -> sourceforge).
In case you use nfs: I saw this myself. I changed (back) to tftp and did not 
have this problem again.
